“Modern Family’s” charmingly ditzy Haley Dunphy (Sarah Hyland) hasn’t exactly been lucky in love — her last boyfriend, Dylan, decided to stay in Wyoming after she invited him on a family vacation to a dude ranch.
Now, things may be looking up for Haley. Sources reveal exclusively to Zap2it that Hyland’s real-life boyfriend, Matt Prokop, has just been cast as Haley’s latest love interest.
Prokop and Hyland met at the casting call for Disney’s “High School Musical 3.” He won the role of Jimmie Zara, but Hyland didn’t get the gig — she did, however, get the guy.
Since then, Prokop and Hyland have co-starred in two projects. In “Conception,” they played a couple who conceived a baby the night they lost their virginity. Most recently they appeared in Disney’s “Geek Charming,” a “Can’t Buy Me Love” type rom-com in which she played the popular high school girl who is ultimately won over by his nerdy character.
Both actors can also be seen in Chris Colfer’s upcoming film “Struck By Lightning.”
Most famous couples hate talking about their famous couplehood, but nope, not Sarah Hyland and Matt Prokop. And we think that’s what made our interview with the cuties for their new Disney movie, Geek Charming, so great.
We basically covered all the bases, chatting with them about, ya know, watching her show Modern Family together, why they hate the word “celebrity” and, speaking of celebs, why they may or may not be the next Justin and Selena. And there may be a little talk about Pretty Little Liars in there, too. Maybe.
Sarah Hyland’s character Dylan in the upcoming Disney Channel original movie Geek Charming may seem a bratty rich girl, but the Modern Family star says it’s just an act.
“I start out off very diva-esque, bratty, spoiled,” Hyland says. “She puts on this persona she thinks people will like, but the real Dylan is actually a lot like me, really goofy and straight-A student.”
In the film (Friday, 8/7c), Hyland stars opposite real-life boyfriend Matt Prokop, who plays film geek Josh. Dylan agrees to become the subject of his documentary about her quest to be crowned Blossom Queen — and although the two seem like polar opposites, they eventually come to realize that they have much more in common than they thought.
Hyland says that what sets Geek Charming apart from the “rich girl and geeky guy fall in love” mold is that the two main characters are faced with real issues: Dylan struggles with her mom’s death and Josh has an absentee father. “It’s not very ‘everything is perfect in this world,’” she says. “Bad things happen to good people — it’s just what you make of it that really counts and I think that’s why this is so different.”

We caught up with Sarah Hyland and Matt Prokop recently when they took over Disney Radio for a day. The real-life couple have teamed up for a Disney Channel Original rom com, Geek Charming, and we had to know if they wanted to work together or if it just happened that way. Turns out, not only were they were a package deal from the beginning of the project, but both Sarah and Matt don’t understand why more real-life couples don’t do projects together (ahem, Justin and Selena).
“It’s kind of sad that couples don’t want to work together, it’s like, ‘Wow, you really don’t like the person you’re with?’ I’d rather kiss her then some random person I just met,” Matt said.

Last night, Sarah Hyland attended two events in Los Angeles. She was at the Puma Presents Riddim + Run Benefiting Souls 4 Souls event and the Premiere Of THQ’s “Saints Row: The Third”. I have just added 113 HQ and MQ photos of her at these events into our photo gallery!

The 20-year-old actress not only loves the British singer’s powerhouse voice, but she credits her hit song “Someone Like You” for saving her life…
It all happened last week when Hyland’s boyfriend lost control of their car they were driving in on an L.A. freeway during a rainstorm.
“It was so foggy you couldn’t see ten feet ahead of you,” she told us at the American Music Awards nominations announcement in Los Angeles. “He had an audition and we were going through lines. He would have been focusing on remembering his lines [but] ‘Someone Like You’ came on the radio, so we blasted it to sing along to it. And then we hit a water pocket…The wheels turned to the right and locked and then it spun.”
Despite spinning multiple times, there was no damage to the car and Hyland and her beau were uninjured. “We were just really shaken up,” she says, adding, “It’s like, ‘Thank you for saving my life!’ ”
We’ll assume Hyland won’t be mocking Adele on Fashion Police anytime soon.
